postheadericon How Do Cats And Dogs Know Which Is Cat Food And Which Is Dog Food?

I have 2 cats and three dogs. One night, I ran out of cat food (the dry type) and my cats were hungry. So since I had dog food only and the shops were closed, I gave them dog kibbles. They’re more or less of the same shape and size and are made of the same ingredients – chicken. My cats took a nibble and refused the rest of the bowl, preferring to go hungry than eat dog food. The next day, i got them a fresh pack of made-for-cats kibbles and they immediately dived in and ate up. How come my cats knew what I gave them wasn’t cat food?
I also know of dogs that won’t eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they’re pigs and will eat anything).
It would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. Is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who’s? Also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too – like salmon. You can’t say it’s the ingredient. How come they know the difference?

postheadericon How Do I Manage Pets On A Newly Seeded Lawn?

I am going to be putting some lawn patch repair on the bare parts of my fenced in backyard (mulch/fertilizer/seed) and also some turf builder on the rest of the lawn. When can I let the pets go back in their yard? Would it be best to supervise them when they are in the yard? The packages say it is safe for pets, but I am not sure it is safe for the grass for them to be on it. Any other suggestions would be appreciated on how I can avoid having a big muddy mess this spring since the winter/pets have turned the backyard into a big mess.

postheadericon How Do You Make A Rabbit Trap Out Of A Small Kitchen Garbage Can?

I have a small kitchen garbage can and I would like to transform it into a rabbit trap. Does anybody know how you make a rabbit trap out of a kitchen garbage can or does anybody know how to make a rabbit trap with limited supplies? I don’t have many supplies so I need to use minimal supplies?
Thank you

postheadericon How Do I Stop Other Cats Using My Cat’s Catflap?

I have a timid female cat and recently put a cat flap in. Unfortunately other cats are now coming in. I have chased cats out and they haven’t come back, but one cat in particular just will not get the hint. I once even cornered him and poured a jug of water on him but he’s been back. Are there any tried and tested (humane!) ways of getting rid of the unwanted cats?

postheadericon How Do You Train A Cat To Use A Cat Flap?

I’ve had my cat for ages now. She’s never used a cat flap before and we’re thinking of getting her one. How do you train a cat to use a cat flap? By the way, my cat’s like 8 or 9 years old. Does it make any difference to what age the cat is when you train her to use a cat flap? Thanks in advance!

postheadericon What Do You Think Of Less Common Pets Such As Inverts And Reptiles?

I’m curious…
These days, more and more people are seeing it ask ok to own more exotic pets. But there are still people who find owning some things “taboo”.
So what do you think of owning a pet (or what do you think of people who own them) that is less common like a tarantula, scorpion, snake, some lizards, roaches, mice, etc?
And what is the most odd, exotic, or “taboo” pet you’ve seen?

How many pets do you have, and how do you keep your house clean with the usual messes that animals make?

postheadericon How Do I Get My Cat To Eat Wet Cat Food Instead Of Dry Cat Food?

I have heard that dry cat food is bad for your cats health. My cat loves dry cat food and only eats a small amount of the wet cat food. I used to give her dry food in the mornings but now I have started to give her wet cat food as that would be the time when she is the most hungry. This morning she woke me up meowing becuase she was hungry and I fed her one of those small tins of cat food and she only ate half. An hour later she still didn’t finish it. I gave her a small pile of dry cat food and she ran straight over and ate it. I don’t think it is enough food for her to be eating only one small tin of cat food a day (half in the morning, half at night). She is already small and although her weight is okay, she really doesn’t need to be any thinner.
