I found out, after having a fasting cholesterol test, that I have slightly high cholesterol. I know that I need to eat better, less fat and all. I exercise regularly (brisk walking at least 40 to 50 minutes a day). Is there anything else I can do to lower my cholesterol?

Just so you know, dietary cholesterol only comes from animal-based foods since it does not exist in plants. So, eat as many veggies or vegetables oils as you like. Probably cut down on dairy products and meats. Then make sure you exercise, including weight training. Other than those lifestyle changes, you can take a statin drug, but only if your doctor wants you to, but it sounds like you’re only slight over normal, so just make those lifestyle changes and you should be fine.

There are some people that just have slightly high cholesterol. The bad thing about cholesterol is that the body also creates it. I also have slightly high cholesterol. I exercise as well. I am trying little things in my diet there are certain foods that are supposed to lower cholesterol, oats, Cheerios, Pomegranate juice, and pistachio nuts just to name a few. Good luck.

diet and exercise will lower your cholestrol but only to a point. if your cholesterol is really high, you will need medications. the appropriate level of cholestrol recommended depends on other factors such as if you have any heart disease or diabetes, etc. if it is only slightly high, you should be able to bring it down with diet and exercise alone. the thing with exercise also is that it increases the good cholestrol as well.
other than diet and exercise, certain cholestrol lowering medications are actually high dose of vitamin. you should consult with your doctor before starting any medication though, even over the counter meds.

  • after 3 months ,check your cholestrole again and if is elevated you should take statin gruops like atorovastatin while you continue your diet and exercise

eat lots of fiber especially almonds not only will you hav a great figure, it also lowers your cholesterol.
however if your family has a history of high cholesterol, you need to take regular checks since chole is produced in the liver (mostly). food intake only account to a small portion.

Dietary changes along with exercise can help lower your cholesterol. Exercise can raise your HDL (or good cholesterol) which helps decrease your LDL (bad cholesterol). When diet and exercise isn’t enough, commonly a statin will be prescribed to help lower bad cholesterol. Be sure to have your liver function checked before and after starting this medication, as it can be tough on the liver. Sometimes Niacin can be added to help increase the good cholesterol depending on your lipid results. Good luck.
